Coaching for Parents
Parent coaching sessions are designed to help you improve your mental, physical and emotional health — and help you build healthy relationships with your partner and your kid(s). A large part of my role is to listen, ask questions, share pertinent parenting experiences, and make space for you to figure out what you need.
What You Can Expect
Coaching for parents is something I began doing over a decade ago when I facilitated The Daddy Brain Workshop to dads, and to case managers who worked with families in Wisconsin. I also wrote the Daddy Brain blog for many years, and was able to learn from and also help parents around the world.
In our work together, I am happy to work with one parent, or with both parents (typically at the same time) as a team. Either way, parent coaching sessions are customized to your individual needs, meeting you where you’re at — so you won’t find any cookie-cutter solutions here.
That said, here is a list of some of the major talking points that often arise …
- Exhaustion
- Co-parenting
- Self-care
- Boundaries
- Adjusting to being a parent
- Lack of quality time with your partner
- Relationship changes — and sometimes conflicts — after your baby is born
- The importance of date night, and how to make it a consistent event
Digging a Little Deeper
Some of the recurring topics that often arise include how to:
- Find a routine that gives both you and your partner time for self-care
- Define and practice healthy ways to cope with challenging situations, thoughts & emotions
- Better understand & manage strong emotions like anxiety, worry & fear
- Observe thoughts & emotions, and be less overwhelmed by them
- Understand that thoughts & emotions are things we experience — they are not who we are
- Implement sustainable, customizable self-care strategies & practices that lower stress, reverse burnout & boost resilience
- Use the breath as a powerful tool to release stress
- Identify and let go of resistance, while learning how to practice acceptance more often
- Practice mindfulness to lessen distraction and be in the moment
- Incorporate the “yes, and” philosophy into their personal & professional lives, providing them with a solutions-based approach to any situation
